Salvation is a road - not a place or a loop where all the saved are gathered, saying: when we are saved, then we are saved. No, it is indeed a road, a long, narrow, blessed road, where we take step by step, where we - as Peter puts it - grow to salvation.

There is also an opposite path: the path of death. Just as one can develop in the good, so one can develop in the evil. "When sin has matured, it gives birth to death." James 1, 15. The path of death is, for example: the path of pride, disbelief, hatred and disobedience.
