The first interpreter of God's word was the devil. God had spoken to Adam and Eve and commanded them. But immediately Satan is there explaining and distorting what God has said. The dangerous thing about his interpretations has always been that he has presented the case in a seemingly more glorious light than God has given. He extends the thought beyond the true glory of God's word to something that seems even more glorious. The mind is dulled by the seemingly greater brilliance, the soul goes beyond its spiritual limits and falls from God.

There is a narrow door and it is a narrow road. So: an entrance and a walk. Not just acts, which one experiences once. He who has come within can, in the power of God, which he receives through the baptism of the Spirit, make life so that death becomes effective in him as the light of God is revealed in the heart. In this power, he takes up his cross every day and follows him, leaving an example for us to walk in his footsteps. The more we become rooted in ourselves, the more the life of Christ will be revealed in our mortal flesh.
